Zain -Sudan is the pioneer of mobile telephony in the Country; launched its commercial operation in February 1997. Zain Group stepped into Sudan in May 2005 by acquiring a minority of 39% stake in the former OpCo (Mobitel); and in February 2006 Zain fully owned the Sudanese Company by acquiring the remaining 61% stake.
Zain-Sudan today is dubbed the Leading mobile Operator nationwide by means of largest customer base; operating revenues and network coverage. The Company offers a wide range of modern Telecom services to suit all needs and requirements of its stakeholders. Zain-Sudan launched the World’s latest 4G (LTE) Service in March 2016; as the first Operator in the Country.

On 9 July 2011 South Sudan became the newest country in the world. The birth of the Republic of South Sudan is the culmination of a six-year peace process that began with the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in 2005.
In adopting resolution 1996 (2011) on 8 July 2011, the United Nations Security Council determined that the situation faced by South Sudan continued to constitute a threat to international peace and security in the region. The Security Council established the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) for an initial period of one year, starting from 9 July 2011.
UNMISS is on the ground to consolidate peace and security and to help establish conditions for development.
